MikroBrain is a management and automation platform for MikroTik router fleets, being built as an independent product in the IoTOcean portfolio. It is aimed at network engineers, managed service providers and IT teams who look after many MikroTik routers across offices, branches or customer sites, and who want one place to see and control them.
The problem
MikroTik routers are capable and affordable, which is why they end up everywhere. Managing them one by one does not scale. Each router has its own login, its own configuration history and its own small differences. Changes are copied by hand, and VPN tunnels between sites are set up separately each time. Knowing what is actually running across a fleet usually means opening a spreadsheet that is already out of date, and finding out about a problem often means a customer calling first.
How MikroBrain approaches it
MikroBrain treats the routers you manage as one fleet. The plan is a central inventory that knows every device, where it sits and how it is configured, and that applies changes consistently instead of router by router. Private connectivity between sites and back to the control point is planned around WireGuard, so management traffic does not have to cross the public internet in the open.
The name says what matters: your network, your cloud, your control. MikroBrain is designed to run in infrastructure you choose, including MikroTik Cloud Hosted Router (CHR) instances, rather than handing your network to a third party.
What is being built now
MikroBrain is in development. The work in progress covers:
- fleet inventory and central administration of MikroTik routers;
- multi-site network management from one control point;
- automated, repeatable configuration changes;
- WireGuard VPN orchestration for secure private connectivity between sites;
- integration with MikroTik CHR;
- monitoring and day-to-day operational management.
None of these capabilities is presented as finished yet. Progress, design decisions and early results will be shared in the IoTOcean Journal as the work moves forward. If you run a MikroTik fleet and want to talk about what you need from a tool like this, get in touch.
